DEVOPS JOB-READY PROJECT KIT

Practice the work.
Build something
you can explain.

Five guided projects for aspiring DevOps engineers who want hands-on practice and concrete portfolio evidence.

THE FIVE-PROJECT PATH

From first check
to recovery.

Each lab gives you something to run, inspect and explain. The projects build toward a local release scenario.

01

PYTHON · LINUX

Linux Server Health Monitor

Inspect a Linux system, produce a health report, and test the monitoring logic. Practice explaining what the results mean.

What you build: A working health monitor and its unit tests.

02

PYTHON · DOCKER

Dockerized Health API

Build a small HTTP API, package it in a container, and use health checks to decide whether it is ready.

What you build: A Dockerfile, a running API, and health-check results.

03

GIT · GITHUB ACTIONS

GitHub Actions CI Pipeline

Turn repeatable checks into a pipeline that runs when code changes. Connect local validation with repository automation.

What you build: A workflow you can inspect and a passing CI run.

04

TERRAFORM · LOCAL STATE

Terraform Local-Only Lab

Model a service inventory with variables, for_each, outputs and native tests. Practice the Terraform lifecycle with local state records; this lab does not deploy servers.

What you build: Test results, plan output, and an explanation of infrastructure state.

05

DOCKER · PYTHON · HEALTH CHECKS

Release & Rollback Capstone

Run a local blue/green release simulation, switch traffic, observe a deliberate failure, and restore the healthy version.

What you build: A release-and-rollback report showing each check and the recovery.

WHO IT IS FOR

A practical next step
after the basics.

For learners who know their way around a terminal and want to connect individual DevOps tools into working projects. Use the assignments and discussion prompts to explain your own decisions.

What you’ll need

Ubuntu or Ubuntu on WSL2, Python 3.10+, Git, Docker, and Terraform 1.6+. Internet access is needed for initial tool and image downloads and for GitHub Actions.

All five labs can run without billable AWS resources. The Terraform inventory and blue/green release are local learning simulations.

The kit supports practice and portfolio development; it does not guarantee employment.
